Simon has been performing since adolescence (or from birth depending on who you listen to). From comedy routines to his school-friends to appearing in professional productions of plays such as The Importance of Being Earnest and Outings.
Simon's main performances are in solo comic roles which he creates himself such as Is He A Bit Simon Jay? Where Simon played 19 different characters in under an hour. This year he adapted his LGBT bestseller Basstardography for a short run at N16 Theatre,Balham.
He has also collaborated with other writer/actors such as Kelly Jones and The National Theatre of Wales but also The Young Vic and Soho Theatre.
His most recent collaboration was with Malcolm Hardee Award Winner and former Dawn of the Replicants frontman Paul Vickers on his first play Jennifer's Robot Arm, where Simon played both The Inventor and Pam in different runs of the play, which he also directed. The show garnered much critical acclaim including a 5 Star review in The Stage.:
'Simon Jay’s Pam wickedly steals the show with a torrent of cruel putdowns, libidinous asides and Valium-drenched double-takes... director Jay’s skill at getting actors to play on several levels simultaneously with an impressive totality, creating a dark, demented, possibly absurdist comedy.'
Simon has just completed a small cameo in PRIME CUT, directed and written by Peter Fellows (Veep, Death of Stalin) and also makes a lot of original material for his Youtube and Patreon channels such as parodying Marine Le Pen, Alan Bennett playing Doctor Who and even Theresa May.
Simon's most successful role to date is that of Donald Trump in his self-penned one-man show. He was the first and only Trump show at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe. The show sold-out and transferred to the King's Head Theatre for an extended run culminating in an election special. With 11 Four Star reviews (west-end wilma, The list, Fest etc.) and coverage in national and international publications, Trumpageddon was picked up by Seabright Productions for another Edinburgh Fringe Run, this time at the Gilded Balloon NightClub, where it has again sold out and received a lot of positive media and critical attention. The show will embark on a U.K and international tour after Edinburgh 2017.
As creator of the show, Simon has the right to perform the character wherever he wants and has played Trump for a National Student Television campaign about engaging in politics and is also writing a book about playing the character over the last year.
